Hi there,
I am looking at purchasing a dvc 4 to use with ableton live to trigger our bands stage lights.
My system is a MacBook Pro running OS10.10 so I believe the max I can run is the daylight 4 software.
As I am very new to this I wanted to check that the dvc 4 hardware with the daslight 4 software will do what I’m after.
We use backing tracks live and they are setup in ableton. I want to program the midi track of each song in ableton to trigger the software so the lights are in synch with each different song… eg change light scenes on the first bar of a beat… or get the light fixtures to flush to the bpm of the song.
Will that be able to be done using that setup? I assume I can connect the dvc4 to my Mac via USB and then obviously from the dvc4 to my lighting fixtures via dmx cable. And then can the dvc4 receive midi messages from
Ableton live via usb/midi to trigger the diffeeent lighting scenes depending on which song I have triggered in ableton
Really appreciate any help!!

Hi,
You can use the DVC 4 in combination with Daslight 4 software on your MacBook Pro running macOS 10.10 to control stage lights for your band. The DVC 4 connects to your computer via USB and to the lighting fixtures via DMX cables. In Ableton Live, you can create a MIDI track to send MIDI signals to the DVC 4retro bowl, allowing you to trigger lighting scenes corresponding to each song. By programming lighting scenes in Daslight 4 and assigning them to MIDI Clock signals, you can synchronize the lights with the rhythm of the music.
But we highly recommend using Daslight5 from now on, however. It's a lot more relyable and our team can offer a lot better support for it.
Regard,

Re: Using a dvc4 and ableton live for live show
Hi,
I tried to create a midi track on ableton, but couldn't make it send any data to daslight. What am I doing wrong?

Hello,
You need to go into Daslight4's preference window and open the relevent virtual MIDI device.
