BUG 505 Add possibility to use selection in FX ?
Hello,
first of all thank you for the new feature Add possibility to use selection in FX.
This is very helpful to faster show ready!
I guess there is an bug with the new feature.
I gave it a try.
Created a group with 6 fixtures.
Added a curve FX on the pan.
AFter that i patched a new fixture and added it to this group.
The Scene does recognize it that there are now 7 fixtures / beams.
But the effect does not effect the 7. recently added beam.

Hello,
I can not reproduce.
Maybe it's a problem with Absolute/Relative option.
Can you test with absolute ?
Regards

I can confirm that it does not update with added fixtures to the selection, you have to reselect the selection beside the grid for it to take effect

Hello,
I have been testing this myself and I also am unable to reproduce, perhaps we are doing something slightly different to you- if possible, would you be able to record a short video demonstration of the issue and send it to us (either via Google Drive link, or via WeTransfer.com link) so that we can see exactly what you are doing and try to reproduce exactly the same?
Kind regards,
Will

Re: BUG 505 Add possibility to use selection in FX ?
Hello,
I believe I have spotted the issue here! In your Relative scene, you have started by selecting the 6 heads, then added the 'Pan' feature to the effect. When you added the 7th head and added it to the group, you will need to delete the 'Pan' feature and re-add it. The reason for this is that in effects that require you to select the actual feature to be used, this is always relevant to the beams you have selected when adding the effect (say for example you wanted to add a 'Pan' feature to the effect, but have different minimum/maximum values for each head- this would be possible because of this). If you were to try this again using a Colour FX or Move FX, you would likely notice that it works fine- since these effect types don't require you to manually add the feature to the scene.
Essentially, the 'Selected beams' function replaces the step where you would previously have had to select the fixtures from the 2D view, then press the red FX button to update the fixture selection.
Kind regards,
Will

Hello,
thank for clearification

Re: BUG 505 Add possibility to use selection in FX ?
correct me if I'm wrong as I'm still not quite on understanding, wouldn't you want the scene to update without reselecting 'pan' or really any other aspect? The added fixture still has a pan fader from 0-255 and the relative scene you would take advantage of with a scene that takes the home position to where it should be......... right? I feel like maybe not updating the new fixture because the fixture has a different range of movement is not something the software should be incharge of?

Re: BUG 505 Add possibility to use selection in FX ?
Yes i dont know...
Would be nice if this updates itself
I need to remove the assigned PAN and add it again to the fx, then it works.

Re: BUG 505 Add possibility to use selection in FX ?
It might suppose to work??????? some aspects are fixture specific and it seems to make a grey text note for those even though I feel like some could be across the board for example most movers have zoom channel which works the same way. and i think i can get the pan fx to work using the the value fx/curve fx, sometimes it updates, sometimes it does not?????????????????? it also seems to do exactly what i thought it should do by still using the fader from 0-255 on fixtures with different degrees of freedom. I'm not sure what's going on, I cant report that its broken or not broken
Re: BUG 505 Add possibility to use selection in FX ?
Hello,
I am sure that this is all currently working exactly as expected, though that being said- we may look to improve on this in the future if it does not seem the most efficient for people to use.
I will attempt to explain in more detail below why it is like this (see the following video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ni9mEW ... sp=sharing)
As you can see, I have a Curve FX which controls the Dimmer of all heads, and the Iris of only the outer 4 fixtures. In most Daslight 5 effect engines (Curve, Value, Chaser and Mappings), they are fully customisable like this where you can select specific features to be used for specific fixtures, and customise the min/max range of the effect for each feature.
The issue arises when I add a new fixture into the selection because I still only want the outer 4 fixtures to respond to the Iris control. If the scene were to update the features automatically, then what would actually happen is the new fixture would automatically be updated to include the Iris and Dimmer control, which is not what I would want.
So to set this up, I have to delete and re-add the features to the effect whilst selecting the fixtures I actually want the effect to control (you will see I select all fixtures and add the 'Dimmer' feature, then only the outer 4 fixtures when I add the 'Iris' feature).
Perhaps the most reasonable solution to this would be to automatically update the effect when it is initially controlling ALL beams (i.e. in this case, we have 5 beams all with the 'Dimmer' feature being used), but not automatically update the effect when a feature is initially controlling only SELECTED beams (i.e. in this case, we have only 4/5 beams with the 'Iris' feature being used). I will feed this back to the developers to consider, but there may be some issues with this that I have not considered.
Kind regards,
Will

Re: BUG 505 Add possibility to use selection in FX ?
Hello again,
Just a quick update- I have just been informed of a function I was not aware of, which might also be helpful to know.
If you have no beams selected, then add a generic feature to the effect (currently this is only possible for Pan/Tilt, Dimmer and Colour), you will now see that it is possible to switch the 'Beams' assignment to a new selection (or indeed, add new fixtures to the current selection) whilst having the FX engine respond to controlling the new fixtures. This will be possible without removing and re-adding the feature to the FX engine.
Hope this makes sense?
Kind regards,
Will

Hello,
thank you for the Feedback.
In my opinion as soos as you decide to assign a effect to a group, the effect should also affect alle fixtures of the group!
As in you example: Iris of all Fictures should be effected.
Therefore, as soon as a new fixuture is added to a group, it should be updated automatic (if this fixture have the selected "fader", as in your example the iris)
