Problems with Martin Roboscan 812s and Daslight...

Post by Crafty1980 »

Hi there,

I'm not sure if this is a software or hardware problem OR even the light itself! OR even user error!!

I've just got my Daslight DV2 Gold through the post and am playing around with it... I've plugged it all in and also added just one Roboscan 812 scanner. I set the dip switches to channel 1 (also made sure that I've patched it to the same channel in Daslight and I've also put in a DMX termiation plug in the light...

I've patched a single roboscan to a new scene and nothing happens like it should happen when I start to change any DMX channels...

In fact, the only thing that does happen is that the mirror, gobos and colours all go nuts and skit all over the place... What have I done wrong?!?!

Don't worry! I've fixed it...

But just in case someone else has the same problem, I needed a Phase reversing DMX cable between the DV2 Gold and the First Light... Then apparently normal phase cables from then on (if all the fixtures are the same!)

Yep as you have found out early Martins had pins 2 & 3 reversed. I just undid a couple of short dmx leads and unsoldered pins 2 & 3 and then resoldered them the other way. Then left them attached to the fixtures at all times. I also marked them with different coloured tapes so I would know them straight off if someone else in the band took them off and put them in the leads case. Do not have them now.

Glad you have got it sorted.

Ahh I see you're coming to the Brickies in Norwich in September! I'm seriously annoyed because I'm going to be on a stag trip that weekend! :(

Would have been good to see your setup! Looks pretty good! The Brickies have a decent setup in house to be fair (and run Daslight funily enough! - that's where I discovered it!) :)

Yeah, Charlie at the Brikies asked me what fixtures and interface I was using and I told her and where I got them from. When I went back there next I was suprised to see all the lights and stuff based on what I recommended.

haha Brilliant! Yeah they aren't using it properly though but never mind! (They aren't running it in live mode, just selecting each scene in the editor!)

I would tell them but I don't want to tread on anyones toes! Especially Charlie's! hehe! ;)
