DL5 OSC commands not showing

Post by John_sound1 »

Hi all,

I have an issue with DL5 not ‘seeing’ any OSC commands. I have two PC’s, one sending the OCS commands and the second with DL5 on it which I want to receive the commands on. Using an OSC watcher on the DL5 PC, it can see the commands but the DL5 OSC watcher does not see them. Both the in built OSC viewer and OSC mapping windows show no commands being seen.

I have set the port, also tried a few port numbers just in case and allowed DL5 all port access in the firewall. I’m running Windows 11 on both machines too.

Has anyone any other ideas why DL5 isn’t seeing the OSC commands yet a watcher tool on the same PC looking at the same assigned port can see them? Whilst it shouldn’t make a difference I have closed the independent watcher tool also and only ran DL5 once proven the PC can receive the commands.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Thanks for sharing this! Using TouchOSC to send OSC signals from tablet to Daslight 5 I am not able to reproduce any such issue, which is very strange. Would you please be able to confirm some more specific information about your particular setup so that we can do some further testing? For example, it would be helpful to know (and perhaps see some images demonstrating) the setup from the OSC program you are using, the ports it is sending/receiving on both ends, the OSC watcher you are using, etc.

Kind regards,
Will

Hi Will,

Thanks for your reply. Here are more details, I’ll try to put as much as I can.

Setup is two PC’s, one as an OSC command host / sender and one with the DASLIGHT 5 software as receiver.

Goal, to send an OSC signal embedded into a PowerPoint running on PC1, to trigger a super scene on specified command when the relevant PowerPoint slide is displayed.

What I have tried
Using the DASLIGHT remote touch app on my phone I can assign and control the DASLIGHT software so all is good there and I know that element works.

On PC1 with the PowerPoint loaded and PowerPoint to OSC software running I can choose my port to send the info, eg 5000, and on PC2 (the one with the DASLIGHT 5 software) I can use OSC monitor V1 to view the OSC commands being received and on that software all is receiving fine. DASLIGHT OSC watcher does not see them any commands. DL 5 receive port is set to 5000 too but neither the inbuilt watcher or OSC mapping see any OSC command, even though independent software on PC2 can see the / recover the commands. I have also tried closing these watching tools so it’s just DL 5 ‘active’.

In windows firewall I have checked and DL 5 has full network and port listening access.

I have tried today the TouchOSC software (windows version) on PC1 and Protokol on PC2, DL 5 PC. I can create a touchOSC command and again it is visible on PC2, via the Protokol OSC monitoring software and the OSC monitor V1. Even with TouchOSC, DL5 doesn’t see / show any commands being received. I also tried installing TouchOSC direct on PC2 with DL 5 but still nothing.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

This is the OSC watcher software V1 and shows DL 5 OSC watcher side by side on PC2. You can see that PC 2 can see the commands but DL5 isn’t seeing anything.

Hello,

Thanks for sending this, could you also show us your OSC settings screen to check this out further? I personally am having no issues with OSC at the moment, so I'm not really sure what exactly it is that is happening within your setup...

One other question that I can't quite see from your images- have you set a Type and Value for the OSC command that you are sending to Daslight? These are values that Daslight is expecting to receive, so perhaps if you are not sending these settings it may be causing these messages to be skipped (somewhat of a speculative guess, since I've never used OSC on anything other than TouchOSC, which does seem to work well for me on both an external tablet and the same Mac that Daslight is running on).

Kind regards,
Will

Hi Will,

Thanks for the reply and I will get images when I’m back at work Monday. I’m wondering if there is an issue with the commands maybe. Can you give me an example of the command syntax that DASLIGHT is expecting?

When I tried touchosc, sending a touch command didn’t show up on the DASLIGHT Osc watcher or in the Osc mapping interface with a scene selected. Yet when I ran the same using protokol, that watcher could see the command fine.

Thank you
John

Hey John,

Would you please be able to send over a screenshot showing what your PowerPoint OSC commands appear as in the Protokol software, since I was not able to use the other watcher that you have showed. I am able to use TouchOSC to control Daslight 5 and the messages are also appearing as expected in Protokol, so it would be good if I could compare the two.

Kind regards,
Will
