Level/VU-Meter
Level/VU-Meter
Hello Daslight-Team and Forum-Users,
I'm new in Daslight 5 but worked myself through all available manuals, forum topics and aunt google and couldn't find the settings for a level- or VU-meter effect (DL 5.0.3.1).
I see that DL 4 had this as a feature (p. 34 "Audio Patters [...]"), but DL 5 doesn't provide it any longer, or did I overlook something?
Audio devices, mics, LED rails and DVC Gold including plenty of Universes do their job fine for every other FX (Perlin, Plasma, Text, ...), but I cannot find the "level meter" FX anywhere, neither in edit or live mode.
Does somebody have a hint where to find this feature - if still available?
Many thanks in advance,
Ole

Re: Level/VU-Meter
Try the Pulse Setting.
Re: Level/VU-Meter
Hi artyfunk2,
Thank you for your answer and sorry for the late reply: I tried it (in Live and Edit), but the pulse setting just reacts e.g. with dimmer or other features, but it's not underlying a mapping enabling the LED's reacting like a VU-meter, or?
Hmm... Maybe I'm doing something fundamentally wrong, but I have the feeling that this feature exists in DL4 but not DL5 anymore (I saw other posts claiming the same "feature-loss" from 4 to 5).
Still scratching my head but thanks for any ideas enabling this nice effect,
Ole

...prove that the effect 'has' been in DL4 at least, and that it's sometimes not working from version to version, too...

Re: Level/VU-Meter
Unfortunately, in Daslight 5 There doesn't seem to be that option, alternatively you can create that effect with a little patience in the “steps” section

Re: Level/VU-Meter
Hi Sprifi,
Yep, I tried that already, but somehow I did not achieve similar results...

I've asked about something similar.

Re: Level/VU-Meter
Hi Azca,
That is somehow pointing into the direction, yes (thanks for sharing)...
In an ideal world I could use my LED-Rails not just with a dimming feature, but also as a huge wall of VU-Meters or a kind of frequency level meter (in particular when we incorporate crowd-mics animating the audience, and their feedback could literary drive the meters visually etc., but I am quite aware that this is a kind of "luxury request" vs. a must-have...
Anyhow, maybe it's coming back into DL5+x some time, in the meantime I'm quite happy with the functionalities of DL in general.
Many thanks for your hint again,
Ole

Re: Level/VU-Meter
Other way to do that could be using an external app with FFT analysis and coding that information into midi messages (8bit resolution). I'm not able to do that thing...

Re: Level/VU-Meter
Es gubt ein VST Plugin namens MIDIVU.
So wie ich die Beschreibung lese sollte das ganze damit umsetzbar sein

Re: Level/VU-Meter
That would not be the same, as it don't react to the real music volume or frequency.
Theoretically yes, but you need an additional software and in theory you have already the tools on board with the pulse triggered scenes. And even if you use an external midi source, it will not come close to a real VU meter. Can you set a matrix effect based on a value of an external midi signal in a way that you set the height of a pixel or matrix effect related to this?S.lellwitz wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 5:38 pmEs gubt ein VST Plugin namens MIDIVU.
