Sound to Light - Super Scene

Post by pbennett »

We are having massive issues with sound to light. If you create a steps scene and set to pulse play some music this works fine. If you then add this into a super scene it then does not seem to follow the pulse or the bpm it does nothing. This again looks like a huge bug in the software. Please can someone help?

Hello,

The reason for this is that the Driving Mode of a scene does not import into a Super Scene. A Super Scene now has it's own Driving Mode setting that can be added in much the same way as a regular scene so this will likely be the best way to set this up for your situation.

Kind regards,
Will

Thanks for the reply. We set the super scene driving settings to pulse but this still did not work. We have multiple lights triggers on the super scene and wanted to add some sound to light so please could you talk us through getting this working.

Hmm, having the Super Scene set to Pulse Driving Mode should work... Perhaps you could send over the .dvc file so that we can check this? If you also let us know the name of the scene that you want to be set to Pulse mode, that would also be helpful.

Kind regards,
Will

Dear Will

How would you like me to send you the file?
When we drive the super scene selecting pulse it messes with the audio track and sound to light does not work.
thanks

Hi Paul,

I have seen your email and checked the .dvc project file and I can see the issue here, but unfortunately I do not believe this is something that we have a full solution for at this moment in time. I will explain why in more detail below:

In a Super Scene, we have the scenes which play from start to finish and loop however many times you set. The reason that the Driving Mode is not used within a specific scene inside a Super Scene is that there is only one playback marker. If for example, you have 2 scenes- one that is running for 5 seconds with no Driving Mode and one that is running for 5 seconds with a Pulse Driving Mode, you have the following issue: Both scenes are playing at the same time until a Pulse is detected, then one scene wants to jump forwards- but the other one can not because it is not set to Pulse mode. In order to have this work, we would need to have the ability for scene blocks to play at different speeds entirely (separate from the playback marker that we have currently). This would obviously be a major change to the timeline, which I do believe would be a great addition in the future- but is not something that would be possible for now.

The Super Scene as a whole can be set to Pulse mode, which does work in exactly the same way as with a regular scene, however as you noticed it will cause some undesirable behaviours with the audio track- since the playback marker is skipping forwards (thus- skipping parts of the audio).

As I don't like to leave situations without any solution or workaround- I will advise something that may be helpful (if a little tedious and counter-intuitive). You could try the following:

- Create a new Bank, which will act as a sort of sequencer for your scenes. Each scene will have no DMX information at all, but will trigger the 'Jump to' function in order to trigger specific scenes.
- Create a new scene in this new Bank (now 2 scenes total).
- Create an empty Super Scene with only the audio file in it.
- Start with the first scene and make it a Steps scene. Edit the duration to the 0.04seconds, and set the Loop to 1.
- Set the 'Jump To' function to trigger ALL of the following: 1) The Super Scene containing the audio file. 2) All the scenes that you want for the start of the track. 3) The next scene in this new Bank.
- Set scene 2 to a Steps type, and edit the duration of the scene to the time where you want the next change to occur (in the case of your 'The Greatest Show' scene, this would be approx 1m40s).
- Set scene 2's 'Jump To' function to be: 1) All of the new scenes that you want to have triggered. 2) The next scene in this Bank.

...

Continue in this way until you have the full track of manual scene triggers.

I hope that this is helpful as a temporary solution, despite taking some work to set up! I do think we will look into how we can include Driving Mode to Super Scene in the future, but this will likely be more of a long term goal.

Kind regards,
Will

Thanks for the information and clarifying I was not going mad. Glad you will be looking into it and we will have a look at the work around.
