DL5 only installs 1/4 of the files.

Hi,

I do volunteer work for a bar dancing run entirely by volunteers for the rainbow community. We were giving the place a much-needed light installation update.

My preference lay with DL5 because of its desired amazing improvements over DL4.

However, when we tried to install DL5 the installation only a few files were placed in the installation folder. I can't recall exactly which one but we tried it on two different PC's with the same results. It did place the DL5 shortcut on the desktop but pointed to a .exe that did not exist. Looking in the folder only ±5 files were placed (something about maintenance I believe). Therefore DL5 is not usable for us.

On Friday the place needs to open and tomorrow is our last building day. Everything needs to go smoothly Friday on the big day of course so we were compelled to buy DL4 with DL5 within reach.... We think that's a shame because DL seems amazing to us!!

Hello Sean,

first I want to say please remenber that this version of D5 is the first beta version. And as you surely know, beta versions should not be used for productive enviroments.

So ... come to your problem.
Have you checked if the download was complete successfully? With Windows11 you have to confirm that you want to keep the download because the download file isn't recognized as 'Save' from the OS. And you have to do same when starting the installation of D5.

And could you please give us some more information about the system you have to tried the installation?

I could solve it on my own.

It seems there is a failure within the installer (Windows, NTFS-Rights, UAC)

My normal NTFS-Rights are:
User: read
Administrators: full access
SYSTEM: full access

The Folder d:\DASLIGHT5 Beta is automatically created with these rights (inherited from root-directory) - the installer itself seems to run as system or administrator, otherwise it couldn't create this directory.

Also the 5 files could be written by the installer but nothing more.

I deleted all files in d:\DASLIGHT5 Beta and changed the permissions to:
everybody: full access

Now the installer could copy all files and DASLight Beta seems to work.

Therefore I think some subroutine of the installer doesn't run with the needed rights (admin or system). Changing the rights of the directory is only a dirty workaround - normally a normal user shouldn't be allowed to change files/folders within the program-directory.
