Problem with 3D Visualizer and P64 LED

Post by rsmith2400 »

Hey,

I have been creating a light show for my band triggered with MIDI commands for the past few weeks. We've just gotten the fixtures in this past week (3 X-Move LED and 6 P64 LED from American DJ) and we were experimenting with the scenes that I had created. The way I've been doing it is creating one scene for a specific command (i.e. scene 1 turns on the P64, scene 2 turns them green, scene 3 turns them orange, etc.) It works well in the 3D visualizer and looks amazing, but once we actually plugged in the lights and ran the song with the MIDI commands going we hit a snag.

I have one scene set to be a dimmer command giving it full light or "Light On", and another scene with just a "Color" command (the dimmer is at zero in the color command). In the daslight 3D visualizer I have to give it both the "Light On" command and the "Color" command. If I give it just the "Color" command nothing happens until that "Light On" command is activated. Although in real life, if I click the "Color" command on the Live page all the lights just turn on and I don't have to hit the "Light On" command. The problem now is that each "Color" command is now also a "Light On" command and when I'm trying to do different lights on and off everything just stays on. I know I can go back and program some new scenes to get around this but I have already created four different light shows based on what I saw on the 3D visualizer that now don't reflect live.

So bottom line, what I am seeing in the 3D visualizer with the American DJ P64 LEDs is not the same live!

Please Help! QUICK!

If I understand correctly all your lights are led. these generally do not have a master brightness comand. ie a shutter channel. so when you apply colour all the leds appropriate to the colour will come on.

if you wish to dim all to 0 the only way is to dim to avalue of 1 this sort of works but you can sometimes get flicker at a value of 1.

remember the scenes work in LTP mode so latest takes precidence, but with 0 values no change will take place as this becomes a transparent cue. but if you use a group release command and your scenes have a fade out time this works quite well.

Two things:

(1)These have a dimmer control on one of the DMX Channels and (2) if it doesn't need a dimmer Daslight should reflect that. As of now I have to have the dimmer channel on in order to see any color.

Problem with 3D Visualizer and P64 LED

Hey there. I have some P64 LEDs, as well, and have done a little research on this. It seems that there are two models of the P64 out there. Oddly enough, I can only find a manual for the 6-channel version, so this may well be false information. The ones I have are 6 channel and don't have a master fader channel; the others seem to be 7 channels and *do* have a master fader.

Check your users manual for your P64s and, if you have the 6-channel ones, it's not necessary to have the master "light on" because simply activating any of channel(s) 1-3 will automatically *strike* the LEDs. However, if you have a 7-channel version, then you will be running into the issue you're having; the "light on" will have to be activated any time you want to see the beam (live).

In order, though, for it to reflect properly in the 3D software, you may need to modify your fixture in the fixture editor to ensure that the 7th channel is working properly. Of course, most of that is moot if you only have the 6-channel version.

Hope that helps...
