Hi

I am trying to use the sweep colour FX on some chauvet freedom sticks but I am having huge issues getting them to light up in the order I want!

I have tried drawing a box upwards and downwards over the whole fixture but it doesn't make any difference to the order of the fixture index. There just doesn't seem to be any logic in the order.

If I select the pixels one at a time I can get the order correct but that is very time intensive!

I've also tried I inverting the order but that changes it for the whole selection.

Is there something I'm missing. At the moment it's driving me insane!

Hey Mark!

You should be able to highlight the fixtures in the specific order by dragging the selection tool in a specific direction, or as you mentioned you can do this by holding CMD/Ctrl then selecting beams individually (or press CMD+Option on Mac, Ctrl+Alt on Windows to set the same index as the previous fixture).

My recommendation to you would be to utilise the Selections tool. This allows you to store a number of different index orders which can be instantly recalled whenever you like. Selections are stored within a fixture Group, so you can store different selections for each fixture Group, or use the All Group. Tip: If you have a scene that already uses the selection index that you want to store- you can select that scene and it will automatically recall the index you have set, so you can quickly assign this to a Selection.

I have got that to work, although it seems to select in the opposite order to what one would expect (the lowest fixture number is the last covered by the box)

I'm now having some issues with symmetry! I am using the knight rider effect and I want it be totally symmetrical but can't get it to select in the correct order for this. I have attached an image showing how I would like it to work but I just can't get it to do it! Please could you let me know how to get it to run in this order?

Hi Mark,

Funnily enough whilst trying to work on a solution for you, I found a little 'hack' workaround for this. Please see the attached video below:

As you can see, from the start of the video I start by selecting a beam, then CMD+Option selecting the next fixture gives the next beam an index of 1, then just holding CMD and selecting the next beam gives an index of 2, then CMD+Option to give the next beam the same index of 2, then CMD to give the next beam an index of 3... etc.

This can be quite time consuming with large amounts of beams of course, but at the moment- this is the main way of selecting an index for fixtures. Luckily, I have found a workaround which might help in your case...

If you select each full fixture in order on the left side (1, 2 then 3 as per your image), then you save this as a selection, deselect all and reselect the selection- you can then hold CMD and select the other side of fixtures (1, 2 then 3) and the index will start again from 1- allowing you to select the identical selection as previously with all the index values matching. You can then right click and update the selection to save this, or store it as new.

Finally- part way though writing I had another thought that would also work for you. If you select all off the beams in mirror order (1 left, 2 left, 3left, 3 right, 2 right, 1 right - with all index's in mirror order also)- you can then activate 'vertical symmetry' within the knight rider effect.
