Daslight 5.0.5.1 Mac 15.1 icw Akai APC mini MK2

Hi there,

There seems to be an issue with the Mac version of Daslight 5.0.5.1. combined with the AKAI APC mini mk2. Sometimes not all of the assigned buttons work. Also the software buttons are divided into 3 (see attachment) and the channels and velocity don't display their color or brightness.

Is this a know issue?

1) Are you using Mac or Windows? Mac
2) What operating system version are you using? 15.1 (Sequoia 15.1)
3) Is your controller detected in the Daslight 5 Settings screen? Yes
3a) In the Daslight settings screen, do you have the APC Mini mk2 settings enabled properly? (i.e. MIDI Input and MIDI Output enabled) Yes
4) How are you connecting your controller to your computer? (i.e. direct USB input, via a MIDI bus, using a USB-A to USB-C converter, etc.) USB-b to USB-C
5) Have you tried using any different USB cables, different USB ports, etc. Yes
6) Was your controller detected in previous versions of the software? If so- any indication as to the particular version where there was no issue would be helpful (i.e. a software version number, a date you were using it with no issues, etc.) Don't know. Only used the AKAI with this version.

Thank you!

Hendrik

Hey Hendrik,

The APC Mini mk2 does appear like this in Daslight 5, and it can look strange but it is expected and should still work fine as is. You will first need to enable the APC Mini mk2 Notes device in the software as well as the 'Control' device.

The scene button can show in multiple segments if you want to have multiple mappings for the same function (i.e. 2 or 3 buttons on the MIDI controller that trigger the same scene). Usually this only occurs when you right click on a segment, then press duplicate. How did these appear for you? If you delete all of these, are you able to make it appear like this again?

Kind regards,
Will

Hi Will,

Thank you for your quick reply.

What I did was loading the APCmini mk2 OSX.xml file first. Maybe assigning all of the scenes manually to the AKAI would solve this?
I did copy/paste some scenes in the same bank in Daslight, but did not assign a single scene to multiple buttons on the AKAI. Deleting the "other 2" segments causes the button to have a single segment.

Doesn't velocity and channel numbers display a submenu with button colors and brightness in the Mac version?

Update: Deleting the other unnecessary button segments, resulting in 1 segment per button, solved the issue with the not responding AKAI buttons.
Still curious about not having a popup-window relating to velocity and channel. Now I have to test every channel and velocity to find out what it is doing.

Thanks, Hendrik

Hmm, there might be a problem with the .xml file, I will need to take a look at this. Assigning thew scenes manually should indeed work for you.

There is no difference between the Windows and Mac version, so you should still be able to see the button colours submenu- you will need to select the 'Notes' device as the MIDI output option however, which might be why you are unable to see this.

Kind regards,
Will

Hi Will,

Sorry to keep bothering you with this, but I just want to make sure I'm not doing stupid things here in the settings.
Even with selecting the note device as the midi output, I am not able to see the button colors sub-menu.

Hi Hendrick,

If I recall correctly (I don't have the mk2 on me now to test), you need to:

- Enable MIDI Input and output for Notes
- Set the mapping Input 'Target and Output 'Device' settings to the 'Notes' device

For reference, I believe the 'Control' device is for the faders (which use MIDI CC, or Control Change protocol) and the 'Notes' device is for the buttons (which use the MIDI Notes protocol)- hence why the 'Control' device is not showing any colour feedback, whereas the 'Notes' device should since it is specifically for the controllers buttons, not the faders.

Kind regards,
Will

Hi Will,

There seems to be a bug in Daslight.

I enable both midi in and midi out for control and notes. See below

But to enable to see the color and brightness submenu you have to select "notes" at the midi-mappings input device.
The only problem now is with the notes device selected at either input or output, the buttons on the controller don't respond anymore.

Changing the input and output device in the midi mapping menu back to "control" leaves the submenu visible and the buttons are responding.

So there is a bug where the buttons on the controller don't respond when selecting the notes devices at either the input or output side.

Maybe there are some users here who also uses the APC mini MK2 icw the Daslight 5.0.5.1 Mac and are willing the share a screenshot of their settings, or you are able to test is with the APC?

Happy to read your reply.

Best regards, Hendrik

Update: I just found out that loading a saved midi mapping on top of an existing loaded mapping, will devided all the buttons (scenes) in daslight into 2. Loading again will devide all buttons into 3. I think this is a bug as well.

With a lot of experimenting I was able to connect the APC properly with al the sub-menus eventually displayed.
Still experiencing a couple of bugs (see above) which made it difficult to get the job done.

Topic can be closed.

Thank you for al your replies.
