so I created a color wipe effect gif and by using the media color fx option it still turns the fixtures black when the gif has no background. any input on this?

sure that works. but now when you colorize it, it blacks out or does something funky

so it needs to be white to colorize I'm finding out, and no way can I export my gif does it do what yours does with the alpha channel

with yours, yes, i for some reason can not using adobe
