Simulate a Dimmer

Post by Matteo1310 »

Hi,

I have a question.
I would want to simulate in virtual 3d simulators this situation:

I have a dimmer with 6 dmx channels;
Every dmx channel control 4 Par64

I would want to visualize in virtual 3d simulators 24 Par64 and
I would want to divide them in 6 groups and
I would want to control every group only with a single dmx channel.

It's possible?

Thanks!!!

Yep, this is possible.

In the DVC2 software on the setup page you would select and patch 6 Par 64. Don't actually think of them as Par 64s think more as a dimmer. The Par 64 bit is for the visualiser so it knows what to display and luckily for you you want them as Par 64s :)
Start the 3D Visualiser and you will see you 6 Par 64s.
Go into construction mode.
Click the "Fixtures" tab and you will see you six Par 64s.
Click to select the first 1 in the list and then right click it and select "Add selected item(s) to new folder".
Do this with the rest of the Par 64s.
Delete the empty "Par 64" folder.
You should now have 6 folders all containing 1 Par 64.
Go into each folder and select the Par 64 and right click and select duplicate. Give an offset and press "OK"
Repeat for the number of Par Cans on each dimmer.
When done you should have 6 folders all containing 4 Par 64s. Each of fixtures in each of the folders has only 1 DMX channel.
You can now set the colour of each of the par cans. I always set mine the same colour for each group regardless of what they will have on stage as it make programming easier as I can see i have the right lights on. When programming is done you can always set them to the colours they will be on stage. This is just a personal preference thing.

Don't forget to save.

And when you restart DVC2 and the Visualiser it will tell you the Patch has changed press "NO" otherwise you will loose all the duplicated fixtures in the visualiser. So the best bet is to do the above after ALL your fixtures have been added to DVC2.

Hope that helps,
Andre

This work perfect, but if I need to add a fixture after my setup has been done, i lost all in 3d visualizer.
It should be great to patch mutliple fixture on the same DMX address if the fixture tipe is the same. I often work with more par can and fresnel projectors on the same dimmer channels.

Thanks a lot

-Click the patch icon (in user mode)
-Uncheck 'get patch automatically from the controller'
-Patch all your fixtures manually

If you need to add more fixtures later on that's not a problem, you just need to manually patch the additional fixtures
