Daslight 4 keeps crashing
Daslight 4 keeps crashing
Hi,
I am having a few issues with Daslight. It keeps crashing on me every minuet. The software doesn't close down it just freezes with a window box saying,"waiting for Daslight to respond" then flashes white and then it's back to normal again. Does anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it? Not sure if it is the laptop or the software, I have deleted and re-downloaded Daslight but still is doing it. It is literally every 60 seconds and it is so annoying.
This is my first post on here as well so Hi everyone.
Thanks

Hi,
Try to disable the "Auto Save" option in the preferences settings!
Hope this helps,
Micha

Re: Daslight 4 keeps crashing
It works ok for me except for then saving or when generating effects.
I often get not responding when saving.
When generating effects for LED fixtures or Moving Heads I get crashes after some time in editing and have to restart the D4 application.

Re: Daslight 4 keeps crashing
Hey Vicstr,
Could you please send me the showfile that keeps crashin after generating effects on LED or Moving Heads ?
I would need it for test purpose.

Re: Daslight 4 keeps crashing
Will there be a fix for this because I like keep auto save on. I don't want to loose my work if it does shut down.
I have the same problem when generating effects, the effects are:
Level meter
Bar Graph

Re: Daslight 4 keeps crashing
Hey awright,
Do you have the latest version of Daslight 4 ? The freezing problem comes from the fast that you have checked the auto save. Every minute it'll save your showfile. The bigger your showfile is, the more time it'll take to save. We'll try to make the save process more obvious so it doesn't look like the software is crashing.
Though the crash on effects very much sounds like something we fixed in the latest versions of Daslight 4. Please check your version and come back to me so we can find a fix for this.

Re: Daslight 4 keeps crashing
Hi concerning the DVC 4. I too have a problem that must be solved by Daslight. During programming the auto save comes on nearly every minute and hence the system freezes Meaning the mouse cannot be used and often I have to shutdown and restart with the fear that all my work on that scean will be lost. Which is often the case when restarting. I see this problem is also on OS. I am using windows 10 with 8 go ram. What a pain... using the latest version and still no good and ZERO feedback from Daslight???
Re: Daslight 4 keeps crashing
Hey,
Sorry you're experiencing problems using our software. This "autosave" option can be unchecked in the preference window. Please make sure you have the latest BETA version.
Hope this helps.

Re: Daslight 4 keeps crashing
I tested in the latest official release and the problem remains.
The application stops responding no matter what I do. I tried reduce the memory used by removing most of the scenes and groups in a copy of my file. But the memory was still in about 400-500 mb usage for daslight and stopped responding for every single thing I did and I tried most things in the app.
I also testing adding some midi controller mappings for my Korg nanoKontrol2 and the response from the app was very slow or not responding at all, like the app in general.
Conclusion:
Minimizing the file did not help.
Restart of daslight did not help either.
Suggestion which could possibly solve this: improve the memory handling.
Questions to have in mind when doing so:
Why was the app still using 400-500mb when I had only 6-7 single step scenes left?
Why did the app not release the memory when removing groups and scenes?
How can te app be more memory efficient without affecting performance?
What things which are not currently in use be the user can be stored in temp files on disc instead of in memory, without affecting performance negatively?

Re: Daslight 4 keeps crashing
I realized I had the same problem with not responding GUI when I was coding threads in c# .Net windows application at my work.
I would suggest also look at:
- disposing of no longer used objects to free memory.
- terminate/dispose non-used threads
Another thing to think of:
Can some code be written in assembler instead (if not doing that already)?
That will give tou total control of every single byte, which in some cases caoild ve useful for a timecritical dmx app like DasLight.
Overall I like daslight4 more than version 3!
You have made a great job!
Even if the application can be improved in the above area mentioned.
