Hold settings on computer crash (Mac)

Post by highab »

Hi, we are using an old computer and sometimes it freezes or crashes and has to be rebooted.

Most of our LED fixtures are set to hold on loss of DMX control, so the lights don't go out... not until the computer has restarted and Daslight restarts that is. Is there any way to have Daslight 4 restart to the last parameters used or at least to specified presets rather than turning everything off because we had to restart the computer?

Hello,

We are really sad to read you've been experiencing crashes while using Daslight4. We are working on makling this software as stable as possible.

Meanwhile, sadly this feature cannot be implemented as your problem comes from the fact that the interface sends DMX signals as soon as the software is started. If there is no show running on the software, the interface will send a "all 0" signal to your fixtures. Thus turning them off :?

Best regards,

Hi, thanks for answering. Can this be a feature request?

You say "if there is no show running" it sends an [all 0], so if Daslight were to have a setting allowing us to tell it to turn on to a default show and preset then it could send that info rather than the [all 0]

Hello

There is an option, and not always an ideal option depending on hardware location, but in the event of crash and your lights holding the last values for effect, you can disconnect the DMX cable from the Daslight interface so the lights do not receive the '0' value command sent when the software restarts.

Then once the software has restarted and show file is loaded and playing a scene, you can reconnect the DMX cable. Unless you are playing the exact same scene which values were held by the lights at point of the crash, when being reconnected there may be a jump to the new light output/position.

There is also an option to have basic scenes written to Stand Alone mode so when the software crashes, it reverts to this basic state to avoid a blackout scenario. Due to your lights having a hold setting, it may not be relevant, but it is handy to those reading who may not have a hold feature on their fixtures.

Kind Regards
