Combining colours multiple scenes

Post by yannick10012 »

Hi everyone,

I recently bought the DVC fun after my entec open dmx broke and so migrated from Freestyler to Daslight 4.

The DMX interface is used to control 24 LED pars and a Hazer.

In freestyler I was used to run scenes over each other. (For example: Scene A; one single step with dimmed blue fixtures on all fixtures. Scene B; 24 steps where with each step one fixture will turn white.)

In Daslight I can't seem to figure out to make this happen, is there any solution to this?

Thank you in advance

Hi,

I think I understand your question.

To run several scenes together, 2 things are important :

1) In EDIT mode, the on/off status of each DMX channel used for the scenes.
- ON with value > 0 = a significant value for the channel
- ON with value = 0 = reset value to zero for the channel (as if the channel was not used)
- OFF = keep the current value for the channel (= it does not add new value)

2) The Release parameter for the scenes (Off / General / Group / All except group).
For example, "Off" keeps the scene running when another scene starts.

Unfortunately, Daslight 4 stores the channels ON/OFF status for the WHOLE SCENE and not for the individual steps.
It means that a channel set to OFF status on a step (during EDIT) will be changed to ON=0 as soon as another step of that scene uses that channel.
(It could have been handy to have on/off status stored at step level but it's not the case in the present version).

On the sample show attached, if SCENE A is running, SCENE B overrides the settings of SCENE A (and thus starts with black for all beams).

A way to do it is to program a single scene (SCENE A+B).
Or use the FX generator to create a chase (for example, Pixel Knight Rider).

Another method is to create a group of scenes (each scene with 1 step) that jump to each other but it becomes tricky.

Hope this helps.

Hi Pol,

Thank you for the very fast reply!

I am indeed trying to create something like the SceneFX A+B from your example show. The only thing is that I am using a MIDI controller during shows to manually dim the blue light in this case while keeping the white "pixel knight rider" effect at full brightness. That's why I need the A and B scene to be seperate from each other.

Is it possible with dashlight 4 to achieve this? (Or else a way to connect the DVC fun to freestyler)

As far as I know, it won't be possible to do this kind of chase and fade out with a multi-step scene.
The reason is that Daslight4, as I noticed before, does not handle channel on/off state for each step but globally for the whole scene. The blue static scene A is always overriden by the chase scene B (with forced black or blue background).

I attach another sample file with a group of scenes instead of multiple steps.
It works like expected but it's rather tricky...
Scene A is assigned to APCmini fader 1, scene B fader 2 and chase speed to fader 8.

There are buttons to start and stop Scene B.

I'm still having a look on other ideas and I will let you know.

I see what you did there, it sure does get a bit trickier, especially if you imagine I am trying to make this work on 24 LED pars.

This is the second ever program I'm using to control my fixtures and as the previous program would occupy faders per step instead of the entire scene so perhaps I've got false expectations from overall DMX software.

This is really a function I require in my lightshows, is there any way where I could use my old program with the Daslight hardware instead?

Other DMX software CAN do exactly what you want very easily with few commands.
Each brand has its own characteristics, parameters and features.
Maybe the next version (Daslight 5) will make it possible ?

I'm not sure that Daslight hardware will work with other software and vice versa.

I don't know exactly the lighting effect you want to do, but try maybe to split the 24 pars on 2 groups of 12, like the show attached, one group for the blue, one group for the chase.
It does not solve the issue, though. Just an idea.
