future request: update ScanLibary-file

Post by Martin! »

Hello,
is there a way to update the ScanLibary-file in an extisting Daslight-projekt without deleting the whole created scenes?

For example:
I have a movinghead (MH) with some movement scense. So DMX channel 1-4 are changed.

If i change the real gobo of the MH and want to update this information in Daslight to the gobo DMX channel for the 2D- and 3D view in Daslight i must change the settings in the scanlibary and import the new file in the Daslight projekt.
After deleting the MH on the patch-side and patch the new version of the MH on the same DMX-Adress the movement scene don't work. Only the timestepes with a 0-DMX-value for every timestep stay preserved.

I would be delighted if there will be an update button or something like that so that i can change some settings in the ScanLibary und update it in the Daslight-projekt without losing some hours of work.

Greetings
Martin

Hey Martin,

Yes this should be possible. Obviously, it's quite important that the new file has the same amount of channels as the old one. Start with importing the new library, then delete the unwanted fixtures from the patch (values should be saved in the scenes anyways) and patch the new fixtures.

Please know that if you have EasyRemote controls set to the old fixtures channels, they will no longer work.
I would recommend to save a copy of your showfile before doing so.

Hope this helps.

TomHat

Hey TomHat,
thanks for you answer.
I tested it with a test file. And it works if you generate the effect and change the patch without closing Daslight.
So i open a new file patch the fixture and generate a scene. If i want to change the fixture i delete the patch, import the new one and patch the new fixture. After that i saved and closed Daslight, reopened it and everything work fine.

But in my case the Daslight-file is an older one. So the generated scences are saved in a file before i open Daslight. So i opened Daslight with the generated scenes, import the new fixture, delete the old and patch the new. Daslight knows only which channels are used (they are ON), which DMX-Channel a Midi- or DMX-Mapper have and how many timesteps a scene have. But the value of the channels for every timestep are zero.

I think that Daslight have a problem if the file with the generated scence would be saved, closed, reopened and the fixture deleted and patched.

Hope you find a solution

hi all,

i exactely have the same kind of troubles, after working a bit with the new daslight, i wanted to change some settings on some fixtures (for exemple the default position in a preset).

i followed ur explanations, but as Martin explains, when i re-opened the file and try to activate a scene, the channels switch ON, but are set to 0 on each step...

isn't there a simple way to "refresh" a fixture if modified ?
in the daslight 3 version, i could do it by simply re-opening a file after modification of a fixture, and the new settings were appearing.

PS : excuse my english ><

"solved" future request: update ScanLibary-file

Post by sono loisirs »

hi again,

i quite found a way to keep my presets after updating fixtures

project 1 :
- got scene A with some presets programmed
- erase fixture from patch
- in scan library, do the expected change on the fixture and save it
- re patch the fixture (no need to import, use the same that the one u deleted.
- save in a different name : project 2

open project 2 :
- erase the scene A that has now all channels set to 0
- import the scene A from project 1 -> IT WORKS AGAIN !!
- the only thing is that u ll have to re-configure ur shortcuts...

edit : huho doesn't work 100% .... can't get to know why keeps bugging with some scenes, and not with others !

Hello,
the workarounds from 'TomHat' and 'sono loisirs' doesn't work for me.
Are there any plans to change the situation for this problem?

Hey,

Martin! wrote:Daslight knows only which channels are used [...] But the value of the channels for every timestep are zero.

This shouldn't happen. Could you please send me your files, so I can try to figure out what's going wrong exactly ?

Hello Martin,
beside your problem, which I also have :(
You wrote, that you have imported the gobo mask into the scanlibrary. I have problems with this.
Could you please post your file specifications for the gobo mask, e.g.
    - size in pixels
    - file format (jpg, png, …)
    - color depth / black-white
    - any other important info
To respect the topics, probably at the correct post: https://forum.daslight.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5344&p=15713&hilit=Gobo+import#p15713
Nevertheless, an answer here would be fine enough for me :-)

How are you?
Has any solution been found for this?

The same thing happens to me: I imported a show from DVC3 to DVC4, and I wanted to update the libraries (include gobos, correct colors ...)

If I change the patching, Daslight 4 deletes the values of the scenes, leaving the channels in On 0.

I have also tried to import a new patch (import) and put the exact name of the library. Nothing works

I think also with the latest Daslight release this was not solved, or I'm wrong?
Is there any way to update a fixture (I just entered a wrong value for the reset function in my first fixture version) if the amount of channels and the order of the channels stay the same?
Creating all scenes new is not an option for me.
From my point of view this functionality of updating a fixture in an already existing project should be possible.

Thanks,
George
