Scene Library

Post by brimborium »

Hallo together,
has anybody decided to build up a scene library? (like the scanlibrary)
My idea is, to build up a scene library in seperate folders, because I often need different light setups.
For example: - bigger or smaller stages
- different song setlists
- open air/ inside gigs
- gigs during daylight/darkness or both
- fog is allowed or not allowed
So It would be much easier to generate matching light projects.
Possible solutions: - scenes in a folder (my favorite)
- possibility to open daslight twice and build up a new project via drag and drop
this solution means a very big "basic project" (data pool).
What is possible today: - to open a "basic project" which incudes all scenes, then delete all scenes which are not necessary.
This way to go is not very convenient.
I´m afraid these big shows will be confusing and I read in this forum that big shows crashed an a lot of work has gone.

May be there s a solution availble that I have not seen yet.

Sorry about my english

Hey Brimborium,

Sorry for late answer. Your idea of building up a scene library sure sounds nice, but scenes depend on a fixture patch. Therefor it would be completely useless to import scenes from a library if the patch you're using isn't similar to the one used by the library.

However, if you know you'll always be using the same set of lights, you can build your own library by yourself and save scenes in different showfiles, based on the same fixture patch. Then you can Import these scenes using the dedicated feature in the "File" menu.

Hope this helps.

TomHat

Hallo TomHat

thank you for your reply.
I did some tests with your solution.
1. I used a empty (no scenes) showfile (with patched fixtures same channels) to import an existing showfile.
When I selected the showfile the scene content was viewed immediately - than I started the conversion (without importing
patch) nothing happend.
2. The same constellation - I started the conversion (with importing patch) - the conversion starts - I stopped it after 30
minutes.
3. I deleted the fixtures in the empty showfile and started the conversion again (with importing patch) - the conversion starts
I stopped it after 30 minutes.
4. The same constellation (as 3.) - I selected some scenes in the import window (they were highlighted) - no result after 30
minutes conversion
5. I reduced the import show file (only one scene included) - no result after 30 minutes conversion.

Can you give me an information what I did wrong?
Best regards Thomas

Hey Thomas,

Sorry for late answer. This isn't normal behaviour from our software. Importing a showfile shouldn't take much longer than opening it the regular way.
I believe the latest Beta available on our software should contain a fix for this, actually. Could you download/install it and let me know if the bug is fixed ? If it's not, I'll ask you to send em the showfile you wish to import.

Regards,
TomHat

Hi TomHat
sorry about my late reply - we had a gig last weekend and I wouldn´t install the new beta version.
"Never touch a running system" :D
So ..today I made a new test with the beta version 16 august 2017

1.I reduced an existing file to two groups, including several files - the same fixtures were patched!
2.Import an existing show
3.The including files (existing show) were shown immediately
4.Select the scenes I want to import (multi selection is avilable :) )
5.Drag and drop is possible now :)
6.The three seleted scenes were added to the new Project in group "pixelbar"
7. "Ok" to start the import - it tooks only a few seconds! :)
.... so far so good - what happend: the selected scenes (3) were imported like expected
all other scenes got a copy. :?:

What wents wrong?

Thomas

Hey Thomas,

Yes I received them. Thanks a lot for reporting this, I could manage to reproduce the bug using your showfile. I now have a fix for it that will be available in next Beta version (soon coming).

Best regards,
TomHat
